It could easily be said that this book on rare books and special collections is an encyclopedia on the subject, at least in the area of management. The author has labored extensively to include everything possible on the subject. It could be an overwhelming book simply because of its size and content. But instead it is easily digested and is full of information on the matters, issues, and policies for these unique libraries. The author has created a narrative throughout the book on his own experiences with each subject discussed. His story is in gray space in each chapter. The gray spaces bring alive the concepts illustrated.
