This Special Issue of the Journal of Global Optimization is devoted to selected papers pre-sented at The IX International Seminar in Optimization and Related Areas (ISORA), whichwas held in Lima on October 5-9, 2009. The twelve papers it contains cover a wide varietyof topics, including theory, algorithms and applications.
