AMPHIBIANS IN PINE STANDS MANAGED WITH GROWING-SEASON AND DORMANT-SEASON PRESCRIBED FIRE

Fire is a major ecological force in Southeastern pine ecosystems. Although natural lightning-caused fires normally occur during the growing-season (Koma- rek, 1968; Taylor, 1969), dormant-season burns are used predominately because they provide more favorable burning conditions such as higher moisture content of the vegetation, lower ambient temperatures, and more consistent winds.
