NTT DOCOMO Heightens LTE Deployment in Japan

NTT DOCOMO, INC. introduced in December 2010 its Xi (read as Crossy) Long Term Evolution (LTE) service. The company started the service in the cities of Tokyo, Nagoya, and Osaka, as well as the vicinities of the Narita Airport. It plans to undertake future expansion through the increase of base stations in other areas as well. Xi-compatible models allow communications in NTT DOCOMO'S Freedom of Mobile Multimedia Access (FOMA) areas, even if these areas are beyond the Xi areas.
