Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) automatic insect removal bin used in conjunction with 1% protein-rich fraction of Bonneville pea treated paddy grains removed 90% of the red flour beetle, Tribolium castaneum, the rice weevil, Sitophilus oryzae and the lesser grain borer, Rhyzopertha dominica within a period of 3 days. Among the different varieties tested, the protein-rich fractions obtained from a wrinkled seeded pea variety, Bonneville is of greater significance as it removed 99.9% of the insects from stored grains when integrated with TNAU automatic insect removal bin.
