External and slate financing in motion pictures: a review of 'Co-Financing Hollywood Film Productions'

The first three chapters provide rich institutional detail on historical and current relationships between the key players in the value chain, from project development, through production, marketing and distribution, and exhibition, and on the evolution of film financing sources and investor-studio agreements. These financing relationships are then examined through the lens of the principal-agent framework, with careful consideration given to potential sources of adverse selection and moral hazard in contemporary co-financing relationships, under both external and slate financing.
