The International Political Economy of Transition: Neoliberal Hegemony and Eastern Central Europe's Transformation

The mainstream literature covering the societal transitions in Eastern and Central Europe (ECE) since 1989, as provided by writers of political or economic studies, has tended to compound the pitfalls of mono-disciplinary approaches to complex historical processes. 'Transitology', like its modish cousin 'Comitology', tends to offer theoretically and empirically selective accounts of the processes, events and institutions it observes, in this case the transformation of economic, social and political life that befell the societies of a region set adrift by the collapse of COMECON, the Warsaw Pact and the Soviet Union.
