Molecular techniques for clinical diagnositic virology

A decade after the first studies were performed it is justifiable to claim that molecular tech- niques have reolutionised the work of the clinical virology laboratory. Hitherto, the role of the virology laboratory was often a retro- spective diagnosis base don virus isolation and serology. Nevertheles, the epidemiological data ollected in this way justified the cotnin- ued activity of clinical virology.
