Donald Gross's The China Fallacy is a well written, well documented, and refreshing look into the myriad "shortcomings of current US trade and defense policy toward China." Gross identifies several 'myths' in relation to the 'real' military balance between the US and China, and contends that the Obama administration's 'hedging' or containment strategy is bound to fail and partially obscures Washington's true regional intentions-peace rather than confrontation. He also suggests that adopting even moderate forms of protectionism will have a considerable (negative) impact on the US and global economy. In his opinion, Washington's 'China hawks' are wrong, and he insists that Sino-US relations will improve significantly if the focus shifts to pursuing a course of action dedicated to engagement, conciliation, and diplomacy.
