摘要

Event impacts assessment (EIA) is important in the field of event management and event studies. Current EIA methods lack comprehensive and integrated assessment on event impacts. This article introduces a new method to evaluate the integrated impact of mega-events. We assume that an inherent relationship between mega-event and media exists and the media content is able to reflect social reality. Based on this assumption, an EIA model based on media content analysis is constructed. Data on Expo '99 Kunming and the World Expo 2010 Shanghai were collected from over 4200 relative media reports and official statistical database between 1992 and 2008. Thus, the article reveals three features of time decay and content distribution of the integrated impacts of the Expo '99 Kunming and the World Expo 2010 Shanghai. First, the integrated impacts of the Expo '99 Kunming appear to be in a partially normal distribution and time decay occurs after the Expo. Second, the distribution of content factors of both Expos show one or more of these dominators: economy, tourism, expo theme, and so on. Finally, the substitution effect of impact exists among similar events. “”EIAEIA 1992-2008 1999 2010 4,200 1999 2010 1999 / View full textDownload full textKEYWORDSEvent impacts assessment, integrated impact index, mega-event, time decay, content distribution, Expo '99 Kunming, World Expo 2010 Shanghai, , , , 1999, 2010 Related var addthis_config = { ui_cobrand: "Taylor & Francis Online", services_compact: "citeulike, netvibes, twitter, technorati, delicious, linkedin, facebook, stumbleupon, digg, google, more", pubid: "ra-4dff56cd6bb1830b" }; Add to shortlist Link Permalink http://dx.doi.org/10.1080/19388160.2010.481605
