Reading Morrow's account of the complex and discordant early years of Sesame Street was like reading the biography of a childhood friend. Journeying from the dinner party at Joan Ganz Cooney's apartment where the seeds for Sesame Street were planted, through the highly negotiated planning stages of the program, into its production and resultant criticism by journalists, network executives, educators, and social reformists, among others, to its current status as a parent itself to a new generation of educational television programs, readers who (know someone who) grew up with Sesame Street may gain new insight into the series of challenges faced and negotiated by their childhood friend.
