NEC Corp. has developed a memory architecture that should improve system performance 20 percent and double graphic performance. The architecture, called virtual channel memory (VCM) technology, introduces a new structure into the memory unit to improve transfer efficiency. It does not involve an improvement of interfaces, which has been the conventional way to improve transfer efficiency. Its interfaces and pin arrangements are interchangeable with those of conventional products.
