It so happens that in recent years I have been passing the Putawy Nitrogen Works almost every week on the train. Thus, like it or not, I have been constantly surveying the site where the Theory of Place was announced in its, if you will, 'general' version. The thirty-four years have taken their toll on the site. The Lublin train no longer stops there; it only slows down a bit so we can have a better look! In those days, the skeins of pipes shining with fresh zinc and chrome plating were interwoven with merry trails of multicoloured gases; today they make the onlooker think of those aficionados of ruins, of Piranesi or Kiefer, and not of Marinetti or Mondrian.
