Friedel Crafts (FC) acylation reactions constitute a well-nestablished synthetic protocol for the chemical functionalizationnof aromatic compounds. Since its discovery in the late 1870s,nthe methodology has experienced continuous growth in popular-nity within both academic and industrial chemical communities.nThe demand for the design and development of eco-sustainablenchemical manufactures drove the application of FC acylationnin a new direction that featured sustainability and efficiency asnthe main goals. Here, the combination of innovative techniques,nsuch as homogeneous and heterogeneous catalysis, continuous-nflow processes, and alternative reaction media, became essentialnfor pursuing these objectives. Although FC acylation reactionsnhave been the subject of several reviews and monographs, annup-to-date overview of green and catalytic methodologies wasnstill lacking. The aim of Ad ances in Friedel Crafts AcylationnReactions: Catalytic and Green Processes is to fill this vacancynby collecting in six chapters the most efficient and fascinatingnsynthetic methodologies for the preparation of aromatic ketones.
