The ATCA 53rd Annual Conference had the theme "Winds of Change". The last few weeks have brought much change. President-Elect Obama has begun to choose his cabinet. By the time you read this, cabinet candidates will have begun their confirmation hearings. We have a new the Secretary of Transportation designated. Congressman Ray LaHood, a Republican from Illinois, will help lead the massive public works program to stimulate the economy. Representative LaHood presided over Bill Clinton's 1998 impeachment in the House of Representatives. He drew high praise for his handling of this sensitive task. He has spearheaded statewide initiatives in transportation and infrastructure, including airport improvements.rnReacting to the selection, Representative James Oberstar (D-MN) called LaHood an excellent choice based on the skills he will bring to the job. "I can't point to any specific legislation he authored. He was a team player all the way through...It's going to be the temperament that Mr. LaHood brings."With the right Secretary we will surely get the right Administrator.
