The big problem presented by the inevitable coming of UAVs into common use in the U.S. National Airspace System (NAS) is not that they present an increased safety risk by objective standards. Rather, the problem is that close examination of their performance characteristics and the risks they present reveal that those same risks are already present by virtue of the standards to which fixed wing aircraft are held (or not held).
