Static Electricity and Airflow Methods for Producing Nonwoven Fabric with a Random Fiber Arrangement

Electrostatic induction and airflow systems were fitted under the doffer or between the cylinder and doffer of the roller card to produce nonwoven webs with fibers semi-randomly arranged such that cross directional strength was better than conventional carded webs. After the electrostatic or airflow action, the fiber arrangements of web tended to form a randomly arrangement structure. These systems also reached the purpose of producing a semi-random arrangement that further reduced the machine direction/cross direction (MD/CD) ratio of tensile strength. In this study, the defect of strength in CD and the MD/CD strength ratios were improved after application of the electrostatic and airflow systems. The MD/CD strength ratio improved to 3~5:1 from the original 6:1.
