AWE 17: British Army stresses latest tech in real-world battle lab

The British Army has completed its first Army Warfighting Experiment (AWE 17), which culminated in March 2017 with a four-week live testing and experimentation period on Salisbury Plain Training Area (SPTA). The AWE has been sparked by the fiscally challenging environment that the service is facing and the identification of a number of capability gaps, plus the fact that the operational environment is changing more and more quickly. The army believes that current methods of procuring and developing capabilities may not be agile enough to fill these gaps, and that some may not even be met by new equipment but will require changes to doctrine or training. Hence, the need to look at innovative solutions, which is what AWE is all about.
