US ambassador to Libya dies in attack on Benghazi consulate

The Us Ambassador to Libya, Christopher Stevens, was killed in an attack on the US consulate in the eastern Libyan city of Benghazi on 11 September by an armed mob of protesters angry over an amateur film deemed offensive to Islam. Three other US officials died and the deaths were confirmed by Libyan and US government officials.
