Diplomatic spat threatens Indonesia's procurement of Brazilian materiel

Indonesia's ongoing programmes to procure EMB-314 Super Tucano light attack aircraft and Astros Ⅱ multiple rocket launcher (MRL) systems from Brazil are under threat due to a diplomatic spat between the two countries, it has emerged. Indonesian Vice President Jusuf Kalla was quoted by local press reports on 24 February as saying the country could postpone its imports of Brazilian military equipment over a row about Indonesia's execution of drug smugglers. The row, which occurred following Indonesia's execution of a Brazilian citizen in January, has also seen both countries recall their respective ambassadors.
