The city of Basel's department of works and planning and Sch-weizerische Rheinhaefen (Port of Switzerland) now have a common goal. They held talks to decide on the future of the port of Kleinhuningen within the framework of a ?Klybeck-Kleinhunin-gen? planning scheme. An historic agreement was the result: The Port of Switzerland agreed to gradually hand over parts of the River Rhine's embankments to the public, whilst Basel offered to help with the development of port infrastructure. The port operator said that the government and planning authority had realised that the key to urban development was to find replacement sites for port logistics.
