The inland port of Strasbourg's new crane can handle up to 300,000 teu per year. It is now possible to load and discharge two barges, lying side by side.rnThe inland port of Strasbourg (France) recently put a new gantry into service. It was built by the Austrian firm Kiinz. The new equipment is part of a programme to expand the city's northern container terminal's capacity. A total of EUR 15 million has been contributed by the French state and local and regional entities for the 2007-2013 regional development scheme. The expansion of the north terminal to 8 ha is in response to the steadily growing need for more box handling facilities. Thanks to the new gantry, the port's container handling capacity is now 300,000 teu per year. This is a twofold increase compared to the number of boxes that could be handled in 2004 (156,436 teu).
