Fatigue causes most accidents

Human error is the most frequent cause of accidents that involve HGVs. However, the truck drivers are only at fault in 25% of the incidents. The weather, road conditions and technical failure only play a minor role in accidents involving lorries.rnThe International Road Transport Union (IRU) and the European Union (EU) have taken a closer look at the causes of truck accidents. To compile a study, a total or 624 incidents that occurred in different traffic situations in Europe were analysed. The results showed that most of the accidents (92%) involved a truck and other road users. When the accident was due to human error, the truck driver was to blame in 25% of the cases and the other road users 75% of the time.
