Hitachi Rail STS to supply Bart CBTC

THE board of Bay Area Rapid Transit (Bart) has approved a $US 798m contract with Hitachi Rail STS, United States, to install CBTC on the 195km metro network. Bart's existing fixed-block signalling system dates from when the first line opened in 1972. CBTC will be based on moving block and will allow Bart to run more trains. Installation will take place over the next 11 years.
