One very noteworthy struggle in the history of the United States has been to create social equity. The last two decades have seen a marked upswing in studies of diversity, marking the importance of this struggle (for example, see Bearfield 2009). However, even with leading journals replete with studies of bureaucratic representation, investigations into how this important concept affects members of the lesbian-gay-bisexual-transgender (LGBT) community are woefully underrepre-sented. Promising to help fill this void, Roddrick A. Colvin offers his book, Gay and Lesbian Cops: Diversity and Effective Policing.
