Confronting Terrorism in Saudi Arabia

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the heartland of the Sunni Muslim world, is unique internationally in defining itself as an Islamic state based on a puritan Wahhabi interpretation of the Qur'an and Sunnah. The Ibn Saud dynasty, in close alliance with the country's ultraconservative religious establishment, has ruled the Kingdom for more than two centuries and governs by divine law (sharia).
