A Controversial Memoir

For 50 years the late Tennent (Pete) Bagley pursued Yuri Nosenko, a KGB (Soviet Committee for State Security) officer who defected in 1964. He believed that the Russian was a liar and a fraud, sent across the lines of the Cold War to spoof the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) into believing that its operations against the Eastern bloc were safe and sound with (false) assurances that no moles were burrowed in its ranks. The CIA's official view is quite different: Nosenko was an honest man and prize catch who provided invaluable counterintelligence information.
