For those without a long-term familiarity with Britain and younger readers this book is likely to be shocking; so many impressive Victorian buildings have been demolished here over the last sixty years. The book collects the evidence together and presents it with good illustrations making only too clear just what has been lost. Coverage includes Scotland as well as England although it is not uniform; Wales, Bristol and the South West get little mention. Newcastle, Leeds and some of the trans-Pennine towns are not adequately covered and neither are the East Midlands, while Bradford, Liverpool and to some extent Manchester and Hull predominate. However, a previous book by the same author and publisher in a similar style, Britain's Lost Cities, which came out in 1007, does cover some of the places omitted here. Both books almost ignore South Wales.
