Interpellations et contrôles policiers conflictuels: Principes tirés de la recherche psychosociale pour la formation des policiers

La situation d'interpellation ou de contrôle effectué par la police met en jeu différents facteurs pouvant générer une escalade conflictuelle. Si le policier n'est pas à même de contrôler l'ensemble des facteurs en jeu, la connaissance de ces facteurs combinée à la maîtrise d'outils de communication et de gestion des émotions augmente significativement les chances que l'interaction puisse se passer sans devoir user de moyens de contrainte. Tirés de recherches sur le terrain et de théories du domaine de la psychologie sociale, cet article présente les principes enseignés sur le sujet dans les écoles d'aspirants de police en Suisse romande. L'article débute avec les notions d'attaque identitaire et de réactance psychologique lors de la confrontation à l'autorité. L'explication de ces phénomènes psychosociaux constitue la base théorique qui permet au policier de comprendre l'intérêt d'adopter une attitude déférente et d'éviter d'apparaitre autoritaire. L'importance de la préparation mentale et de la manière d'entrer en contact sont abordées. Comment établir un rapport suffisant pour pouvoir exercer une influence sur la personne? Comment désescalader face à une personne agressive ou/et en colère? Face au refus d'obtempérer, à partir de quand le policier doit-il faire usage de ses moyens de contrainte? Les meilleures techniques de communication devenant difficiles à utiliser sous l'emprise de la colère, l'article termine avec les principales techniques d'autorégulation mentales enseignées aux aspirants de police.%Various factors are at issue in a police control or arrest situation that may generate and escalate it into a conflict. If it is not possible for the police officer to master every factor at play, the knowledge of these factors combined with mastering communication and emotion control skills enhance significantly the chance of an interaction without having to use means of coercion. Based on field research and on social psychology theories, this article presents principles that are taught in police academies in the French speaking part of Switzerland. The article begins with notions about identity attack and psychological reactance when facing authority. How can this identity attack be reduced? These psychosocial pheno- mena provide the theoretical base to enable the police officer to understand the benefits of adopting a deferent attitude and avoiding an authoritarian approach. Importance of mental preparation and the way to approach are subjects that are raised. How to establish a good enough rapport to influence the person? How to de-escalate when confronted with an aggressive or/and angry person? Faced with refusal to comply, at what point should the police officer use means of coercion? In the grip of anger, an officer will have difficulty in using his communication skills, however good they might be. The last part of this article presents the main self-regulation skills taught in police academies.
