LEVERAGING ON CONSTRUCTION PLANNING SUPPORT SYSTEM (CPSS) FOR EFFECTIVE CONSTRUCTION MANAGEMENT

Common software of scheduling and BIM require input of construction plan outputs. The problem is the lack of an efficient tool supporting formal preparation of these outputs; re-planning to meet changes required by scheduling and BIM; and applicability to real-life projects performed by SMEs. This study considers preparation of a planning support system named CPSS, for largely mitigating the problem. CPSS capabilities include developing WBS; determining of activities and their dependencies; largely sequencing activities, estimating and revising of durations and costs; and documenting of plan. CPSS enables team collaboration, assisting project managers to more reliably communicate project's intent to all stakeholders in a timely fashion. It promotes accuracy and process optimization, saves time, and reduces waste. There is a dire need for an effective construction planning support system that provides needed support to construction professionals for enabling their planning practices in the construction industry. The study findings would be of interest to BIM experts, construction professionals, and faculty involved with BIM and construction education.
