Professor Stanislaw Banka passed away on February 4, 2014 after a long and serious illness, just six months before his 70th birthday. He was born on September 24, 1944 in Brudzowice, Silesia, Poland. Having graduated from the Technical High School for Power Engineering in Sosnowiec in 1963, he enrolled at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering of the Szczecin University of Technology. He received his M.Sc. degree in electrical engineering from the same faculty in 1969. After graduation he was uninterruptedly with his Alma Mater faculty. He received his Ph.D. degree from the Technical University of Wroclaw in 1976 after defending his dissertation entitled Identification of Time-Variant Linear Dynamic Processes under Probabilistic Conditions, which was supervised by Professor Zdzistaw Bubnicki. In 1992 he received his doctor habilitatus (D.Sc.) degree from the Systems Research Institute of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw on the basis of his academic achievements and the D.Sc. dissertation entitled Computer-Based Synthesis of Complex Multivariable Automatic Control Systems in Polynomial Presentation.
