Platts interview: Kansai Electric's LNG buyer

Japan's second-largest power utility, Kansai Electric, may exercise downward quantity tolerance clauses, or DQTs, to cut its long-term imports of LNG both in calender year 2011 and the fiscal year that ends March 2012, despite a steady recovery in its power demand seen this year, a senior company official told Platts.rn"We would likely have to consider exercising the options [DQTs]" in the coming calender and fiscal years, Yoshihide Hirota, Kansai Electric's general manager for the office of fossil fuels, said in an interview in Tokyo November 25. "It [the reduction volume] will likely be smaller than the previous year, when we exercised a certain degree of the option," Hirota added.
