ECB short-staffed as regulatory duties loom

The European central bank faces the prospect of being short-staffed when it takes over supervision of the eurozone's banks in November, after admitting that it is having difficulty in filling hundreds of new positions. In its quarterly report on the region's new Single Supervisory Mechanism, the central bank admitted that, with only three months to go until it takes over as the eurozone's regulatory body, it has had to re-advertise roles. "Some positions were re-advertised as it had proven difficult to immediately find candidates with the appropriate profile," it said in the report, adding that some teams may also not be completed as quickly as envisaged because many appointed candidates have to sit out long notice periods.
