Energy future holdings, the biggest power company in Texas, set a new record last week when it lined up an US$11.8bn debtor-in-possession facility, the largest bankruptcy financing in history. The troubled electricity company filed for a widely expected bankruptcy on Tuesday, seven years after a record-breaking leveraged buyout saddled the company with billions in debt just before the US natural gas boom slashed prices for electricity.
