Eurex recharges US VStoxx push

German derivatives exchange, Eurex, is set to embark on another major effort to boost its VStoxx franchise after volume growth fell short of expectations over the past three years. The firm will relax the thresholds that govern its EU market-making programmes to make it easier for EU participants to earn fee rebates and take advantage of a 30% revenue share opportunity. The programmes apply to market-making in futures contracts on the index -which tracks the the price of options tracking the EuroStoxx 50 and is billed as the European "fear gauge" alongside the popular US-based VK index. "We have found there are quite a few participants who are interested to start quoting in the VStoxx and we are designing a programme that helps them start small and grow their footprint as they get acclimated to taking more risk in the market," said Megan Morgan, head of business development at Eurex.
