Green bonds allow issuers to earmark money for specific projects, and offer an opportunity to reach a new group of buyers that would not otherwise invest. Financials and corporates have been getting in on the action. Financials see them as a way to raise capital specifically to lend to eligible green projects. Corporates issue them to raise money to fund their own green initiatives, raising their CSR (corporate social responsibility) profile at a time when consumers are increasingly scrutinising the behaviour of the companies they buy from.
