Asset manager amundi is backing its €3.545bn acquisition of UniCredit's asset manager pioneer investments with around €600m of senior and subordinated debt. The all-cash acquisition will also be financed through around €1.5bn of excess capital and a €1.4bn rights issue, which will be launched in the first half of 2017 and will be underwritten by Credit Agricole. Sources told Reuters previously that other companies vying for Pioneer included a Poste Italiane-led consortium, US-based Ameriprise Financial, Australia's Macquarie and British group Aberdeen Asset Management.
