The democratic socialist republic of sri lanka has found the perfect window to issue dual-tranche bonds of US$1.5bn, securing a vote of confidence from international investors as it starts tackling its fiscal problems. The long-awaited 5.5-year and 10-year bonds were launched last Monday, on what a banker described as one of the best days in the Asian primary market this year. Financial markets had stabilised after the volatility related to the UK's Brexit vote, US payrolls data suggested the Federal Reserve would keep rates steady this year, and Sri Lanka's outstanding sovereign bonds had rallied.
