The planned IPO of the Government of Western Australia's western power has been stopped in its tracks following the centre-left Labor Party's victory in the state election. Outgoing state Premier Colin Barnet, head of a Liberal Party-National Party coalition, had pledged to push ahead with the expected A$3bn (US$2.2bn) privatisation of the power grid, if his party won. However, the loss to the Labor Party, which opposed the float and will be able to govern without a coalition partner, should now put an end to the plan.
