UK FIs pressured by political noise

UK financials' spreads came under renewed pressure last week as the rhetoric around a potential no-deal Brexit escalated following Boris Johnson's appointment as the country's prime minister. Politically related volatility is nothing new for UK lenders and something they have had to deal with since the country voted to exit the European Union in 2016. However, it has reared its head at an inopportune time given they are emerging out of blackout and have in recent years used the relatively quiet month of August to get deals away.
