From December 13 2008 issue Madoff at centre of alleged US$50bn fraud Bernard Madoff, a former chairman of Nasdaq and a well-known figure in trading circles, was charged last week by the SEC with securities fraud related to a multi-billion Ponzi scheme that the regulator alleges he perpetrated on advisory clients of his firm, Bernard L Madoff Investment Securities LLC. The complaint alleges that Madoff paid returns to certain investors out of principal received from other investors.
