Governments must do more to encourage wider deployment of energy-efficient, low-emission coal and natural gas-fired power plants, as part of wider efforts to fight climate change, according to a report published Oct. 23 by the International Energy Agency. The report, Fossil Fuel-Fired Power Generation— Case Studies of Recently Constructed Coal and Gas-Fired Power Plants, suggests that many of the world's coal-fired power plants are operating at efficiencies well below 30 percent.
