Brussels—The EU Council of Ministers Dec. 11 approved a measure that will ban most perfluorooctane rnsulfonate (PFOS) compounds in the European Union starting in summer 2008.rnFinal approval by the EU Council, which directly represents EU member state governments, follows a vote on the legislation in the European Parliament Oct. 25 (29 INER 794, 11/1/06).rnThe legislation amends EU Directive 76/769/EEC on Dangerous Substances and Preparations.rnPFOS is used in industrial processes and fire extinguisher foams.
