Chinese cities seeking to be designated new-energy demonstration areas will have to display plans to satisfy at least 6 percent of their energy needs from renewable sources by the end of 2015 and to use at least two types of renewables such as wind, solar, biomass, or geothermal, according to China's National Energy Administration. Under its 12th Five-Year Plan (2011-2015) China has a goal to develop about 100 new-energy demonstration cities (35 INER 826, 8/29/12).
