Canadian Federal Budget Increases Pipeline Review Agency Funding, Cuts Offshore Tariffs

Canada's National Energy Board (NEB) would receive a C$28 million ($25.4 million) funding boost under the federal budget presented in Parliament on Feb. 11. One of the board's principal duties is review and approval of pipeline projects. Additionally, Finance Minister Jim Flaherty's budget said the government will continue to develop detailed responses to the recommendations made by the Tanker Safety Expert Panel and the Special Representative on West Coast Energy Infrastructure and will eliminate tariffs on offshore oil drilling. The proposed budget will now be considered by Canada's House of Commons.
