Mexican Law Expands Government Oversight Of Environmental Impacts of Oil Sector

Mexico's government will be required to form a new agency to oversee environmental protection efforts in the country's flagship oil industry, adopt a law to guide geothermal energy generation, and take steps to improve energy efficiency and encourage the use of cleaner technologies under an energy overhaul bill approved by the Congress and signed by the president. The law also will open up Mexico's oil and electricity markets to private competition in order to boost foreign investment and development.
