Guangdong Province Steps Up Enforcement Action

Environmental authorities in China's economic powerhouse Guangdong province said they will strengthen environmental enforcement and are stepping up a system of corporate accountability that could lead to some polluting companies being barred from getting new loans. The Guangdong Environmental Protection Bu- reau Feb. 9 announced tougher environmental enforcement under the amended national Environmental Protection Law, which took effect Jan. 1. The southern province called for systems by the end of 2016 to combat cross-jurisdictional water, air and soil pollution, and to streamline the work of government departments to supervise environmental protection.
