Ontario Proposes Rigorous Cap-and-Trade Offsets Approach for Businesses

Ontario announced how companies can offset their greenhouse gas emissions under the province's cap-and-trade program, which begins Jan. 1, 2017,and will be integrated with those in Quebec and California. Generally, companies will be able to purchase offsets from other companies' emissions reductions-or declare offsets by removal of greenhouse gases through activities such as tree planting or manure management-the government said Nov. 15.
