UNCERTAINTIES AND UPCOMING CHALLENGES FOR THE BALTIC ELECTRICITY MARKET

In summary, legal action regarding protection against perceived threats by the Ostrovets NPP (in other words, measures restricting the trading of electricity between Lithuania and Belarus); and uncertainties regarding trading capacities calculation and allocation with non-EU countries determined by the Methodology (which also influences trading capacities within the Baltic States) have the potential to affect not only electricity-market operation in Lithuania but also in the wider Baltic States Region and related non-EU countries. Decisions regarding the above-mentioned issues will require regional legal and political solutions, meaning that a coordinated and unanimous regional energy strategy regarding these issues should be reached before the implementation of any particular action.
