Hohenstein Launches Sunscreen Textile

Researchers at the Hohenstein Institute have developed a translucent, intelligent textile material that adapts its thermal permeability to suit the ambient temperature. Designed in combination with the ITCF in Denkendorf, the fabric allows infrared radiation to pass through or be reflected automatically, unlike conventional sunscreen materials, which often screen visible light whilst keeping out the heat. The sunscreen textile's heat- reflecting and translucent properties mean it can adapt to the environmental temperature, so when external temperatures are low, the incoming infrared radiation can be used as heat energy.
